Work on pannier tank No.3650 has continued this weekend, and the Didcot Railway Centre has released an update into the work completed on the 28th July 2018.
This weekends work has concentrated on the removal of the bolts and brackets which secure the boiler to the frames.
In credit to the team working on the locomotive, by the end of the day, just 4 bolts remained to be removed before the boiler can be removed.
The front splasher has been removed to give access to the last of the driver’s side bolts that hold the smokebox to the cylinder block. Tarpaulin has been placed here to stop flaking paint and rust from dropping onto the motion.
Kevin has been inside the smokebox to cut off the corroded bolts, which hold down the fireman’s side to the cylinder block.
The team this weekend were Will, Chris, Chrissy and as always Kevin. I’m sure you will agree, they have done a top job!
