Where and when to see steam locomotive No.35018 British India Line in Ribblehead and Carlisle tomorrow

Steam locomotive No.35018 British India Line will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Ribblehead and Carlisle on Saturday 28th July 2018.

The Bulleid locomotive is on a special rail tour from Leicester to Carlisle.

The steam locomotive will be assisted by a diesel locomotive due to the hot weather fire risk. The locomotive will come onto the train at Hellifield and will take the train up the Settle and Carlisle line to Carlisle. A diesel locomotive will be hauling the train from Leicester to Hellifield. The diesel locomotive will depart the Leicester at approximately 06:02 am.

The railtour will then leave the Leicester, bound for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Loughborough (06:16), East Midlands Parkway (06:28), Beeston (06:40), Alreton (07:16) and Chesterfield (07:32) before stopping at Hellifield Goods Loop at 09:40.

After attaching 35018, the train will depart Hellifield for Carlisle at 10:26 and will pass over the Ribblehead viaduct at approximately 10:55 and will only stop at Appleby at 11:36 on its way to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 12:53.

On the return journey, 35018 British India Line will haul the train from Carlisle, where it will depart at 15:32 and will steam through Hexham (16:25), Metrocentre (16:49), Durham (17:26), Darlington (18:44) and Thirsk (19:06) before arriving into York at 19:48. Here, 35018 is taken off the train, with the remainder of the journey covered by a diesel locomotive.

Departing York at 18:05, the train will make the same route back to Leicester. The train will make stops at Chesterfield (21:39), Alfreton (21:54), Langley Mill (22:06), Beeston (22:37), East Midlands Parkway (22:47) and Loughborough (23:00) before arriving back into Leicester at 23:22.
