The Mid Suffolk Light Railway have announced that they have suspended steam trains until they have had some significant rainfall.
The ‘Middy’ will continue to operate trains on the normal Sunday and Bank Holiday opening days, but they will be using diesel power only.
To compensate passengers for the lack of steam, day entry tickets will be half price. It is now adults £5.00, children £2.00, families £12.00 and concessions £4.00.
The above picture is of a steam train from a field which hasn’t see any rain for 50 days.
What did the officials say?
John Durrant, the MSLR Locomotive Superintendent, said:
“The large wheat field adjacent to the railway’s main line is just like a tinder box. One spark in the wrong direction could give us a serious problem”.
