The Nene Valley Railway has announced that diesel locomotives will replace steam locomotives in operating their advised timetable.
As readers in the UK will know, Britain is currently in a heat wave, with the sun shining for weeks and very little rain for a while.
The hot weather has meant that the ground is dry and causes havoc when the steam locomotive works hard as they release hot embers from their chimney, causing the dry grass to catch fire. The problem is heightened at the Nene Valley Railway as there is plenty of farmland surrounding the railway, which can have devastating effects on the farmers if their land catches fire.
The heritage diesel locomotives will continue to take passengers from either Peterborough or Yarwell Junction to the halts along the line.
There is currently no date as to when the Nene Valley Railway will re-introduce steam locomotive hauled trains.
