Network Rail has announced that Goodmayes station will be closed from Sunday 5 August to Sunday 12 August to allow the footbridge to undergo essential strengthening work.

The work needs to be carried out to prevent future deterioration and strengthen it for the 3.7 million passengers who use it every year.

The station will be closed for eight days to allow the work to be carried out. This is because of the confined space at the station and also the type of machinery and tools needed to complete the work. It is also to keep passengers out of harms way during the work.

Transport for London Rail passengers who use Goodmayes can use Chadwell Heath or Seven Kinds, both of which are nearby, and tickets will be accepted on local buses.

What did the officials say?

Meliha Duymaz, ‘s route managing director for Anglia, said:

“This work is an essential part of our Railway Upgrade Plan to maintain and improve access at the station for the thousands of passengers who use it every day. The station will be closed while the work takes place and passengers are advised to check with the train operator for alternative travel options. I’d like to thank passengers for their patience while we carry out this work.”

Howard Smith, operations director for TfL Rail, said:

“I’d like to ask customers for their patience while this critical Network Rail work takes place. During the station closure, customers are advised to check for updates before travelling and use local bus services, where necessary, to complete their journeys.”
