The Epping Ongar Railway have confirmed their line up for their 2018 Steam Gala, which will take place from the 8th June to the 10th June 2018.
The line up is confirmed to be USATC S160 Class No.5197, GWR 813, Hunslet Austerity Lord Phil, Met No 1, and Hawthorn Leslie locomotive ‘Isabel’
This is the first time that 5 locomotives in steam have featured in a gala at the Epping Ongar Railway.
An intensive timetable will be in operation. The S160 and Lord Phil will be working a 5 coach rake leaving a 3 coach rake for Met 1 and GWR 813. On Saturday and Sunday of the event, there will be brake van rides with Isabel.
The gala will also be hosting the unveiling of the newly painted and lined ‘Isabel’. This will take place at 10.30 am on Saturday 9 June.
What did the officials say?
Tony Goulding, Rolling Stock Manager said:
“The five loco line up has taken a long time to pull together and I am confident that it will match the experience of our previous successful galas. Our volunteer teams have stepped up to the plate and built a fantastic timetable and sufficient crews to run these services over 3 full days.”
Adam Gorksi, who has completed the lining and panelling said:
“I am a professional artist and this job is taking a long time to complete. I knew it was going to be a daunting project and the work has already taken me many hours to complete due to the intricacy of the overlaid panelling and lining. I am sure that it will be a very satisfying accomplishment when and I am looking to the public reaction on 9 June.”
