The Spring Bank Holiday is the perfect opportunity to take a trip to Inch Abbey behind a heritage steam locomotive on the Downpatrick and County Down Railway.
The train will be being hauled by Orenstein & Koppel steam locomotive No. 1 – a German-built steam locomotive that hauled wagons full of sugarbeet during her working life.
Take a picnic with you on the train to Inch Abbey and spend some quality time together on the banks of the River Quoile.
Don’t fancy carrying a picnic round with you? Refreshments (teas, coffees, cold drinks and buns) are served all day onboard the buffet carriage, which is parked at Inch Abbey.
A trip to the museum and carriage gallery brings it all together to see how trains used to run in the past.
The young train fans can enjoy their own Kids Station in the gallery, get them dressed up to be a train driver or guard and see them climb aboard the cab of a locomotive for their photo to be taken – let them drive Thomas the Tank Engine on a model railway – Big Kids can even have a go, too!
You can buy a ‘Footplate Pass’ for just £20 and get to travel up in the locomotive cab with the driver.
Trains run at the new times of 1 pm to 4 pm, with fares being:
- Adults: £7.00
- Children: £5.00
- Senior Citizens: £6.00
- Family ticket: £20
