Hull Trains has announced that a new Managing Director will start from October 2021 in its recovery bid following the effect of the pandemic
David Gibson will be joining Hull Trains as their new Managing Director from Friday the 1st of October 2021.
David served in the Royal Air Force until 2003, when he joined Hull City Council as Assistant Chief Executive. This position saw David lead the council through a huge transformation leading to them winning The Most Improved Council of the Year Award at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards during 2010. This was no mean feat as Hull City Council had placed bottom out of the 150 local authorities taking part just 6 years before David joined.
Moving on from Hull City Council, David worked with Capita’s Consulting and Transformation division as a Director in the Programme & Project Management Practice. This position meant delivering solutions for multiple clients throughout the UK & Ireland.
More recently, David has held positions including Managing Director for DB Regio Tyne & Wear and Service Delivery Director for Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries.
As passenger numbers increase on Hull Trains following the pandemic, services are well on the way to getting fully back on track with up to six daily returns now running throughout the week. The exciting news of David’s appointment will no doubt be a welcome addition, as the rail operator looks forward to a positive future building on their previous success.
Commenting, Andy Mellors, First Rail Managing Director, Non-Franchised Businesses, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of David Gibson as Managing Director of Hull Trains. David, who lives in the East Riding of Yorkshire, is passionate about the region, and is excited by the opportunity to lead Hull Trains to regain its position as leading operator for rail passenger satisfaction.”

As Hull Trains have done much better than before. I think that people who use Hull Trains and the Paragon Class 802s have made the service lot more efficient.
