Network Rail has confirmed dates when disruption to train services arriving and departing Leeds railway station will take place.

To improve passenger the experience and increase capacity, Network Rail will be carrying out modification work to the track layout for Platforms 4, 5 and 6 at Leeds Station.

Part of the project will see upgrades to the signalling and other equipment, which will involve constructing a chamber underneath the track through Platform 3 and 4, which cables for the signalling equipment will be housed.

In order to reduce disruption to passengers, the majority of this work to be carried out overnight at weekends, beginning after the last train on a Saturday evening and continuing into Sunday morning. The four weekends are:

1. Sunday 19th of September
2. Sunday 26th of September
3. Sunday 3rd of October
4. Sunday 10th of October

Train services which are disrupted will have rail replacement bus services in place until 12pm on the Sunday,

1. Bus replacements will run between Leeds and Horsforth, where passengers can connect to trains to and from Harrogate, Knaresborough and York
2. Buses will replace trains between Leeds and Kirkstall Forge, where passengers can change to services to and from Ilkley and Bradford Forster Square
3. Buses will replace trains between Leeds and Skipton

Northern services to/from Morecambe and Carlisle will start/end at Skipton

• Replacement buses will pick up and drop off on New Station Street. Passengers who need to travel are strongly advised to plan ahead and check their journey via National Rail Enquiries or with their train operator.

The weekend of Saturday the 30th and Sunday the 31th will see further disruptions, these being:

1. Saturday 30th October – A reduced train service will run to/from Leeds station with some bus replacements in place.
2. Sunday 31th October – No trains will run to or from Leeds station before 11:40. A reduced service will then be in place for the rest of the day with bus replacements in place.

Up until Early 2022 this upgrade work will be taking place on Platforms 4, 5 and 6, with Network Rail advising passenger planning ahead.

North and East Route Director for Network Rail Matt Rice, said: “We’re preparing to improve the track layout at Leeds station, which will bring more reliable services for passengers travelling across the North, reducing the impact of unplanned disruption.

“In this latest stage of work, we’re making more space for signalling upgrades so that cables can run underneath the tracks, as well as installing new overhead line equipment. We’ve planned the project to minimise disruption to services as much as possible, but some of it can only be done safely when some of the platforms are closed. Buses are running to keep passengers moving and we advise anyone travelling on the four upcoming Sundays to plan ahead and allow plenty of time.”

Regional Director at Northern, Tony Baxter said: “The work being carried out by Network Rail is vital and will provide our customers with an even more reliable railway.

“We are sorry for any disruption during the improvements and our customers can be assured that both Northern and Network Rail will do everything possible to minimise the impact of the work and deliver alternatives that keep people on the move. Bus replacement services will be available for our customers.”
