Network Rail has announced that work will be taking place in North Yorkshire over the bank holiday weekend.

The essential engineering work which will take place between Whitley Bridge and Snaith will be carried out by Network Rail, and bring smoother and more reliable journeys for the route and for passengers travelling in and around North Yorkshire.

The work will see an engineering team lift and replace approximately 1.8km of track between Whitley Bridge and Snaith, which is close to the Drax power station in North Yorkshire.

Ballast, which is the stones which support the tracks and also the sleepers, will be totally replaced. The work will bring benefits to passengers and the line will require less maintenance in the future.

Network Rail has planned work taking place during the bank holiday weekend with great care to keep customers on the move and has a huge 95% of the UK network open for business as usual.

As railways welcome back passengers to the tracks, it is vital that passengers can get out and about during the bank holiday, reconnecting with family and friends and visiting their favourite holiday locations.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail’s North and East route, said: “Upgrading the track at Hensall will bring smoother, more reliable journeys for passengers and freight services using this line. We’ve planned the work carefully to minimise the impact on the local community.

“As we welcome passengers back to the railway, the vast majority of services are running as normal. We’re advising people to check their journey and allow plenty of time.”
