Transport for Wales and Colas Rail UK has agreed on a deal whereby the rail operator will become the new owner of specialist engineering company, Pullman Rail Limited.
The rail operator has been reviewing its depots and stabling options, including the largest depot, Cardiff Canton, where the vast majority of Transport for Wales trains are serviced, cleaned and maintained.
Pullman Rail Limited being purchased by Transport for Wales will mean that Cardiff Canton will have the capacity to support the introduction of the South Wales Metro as well as new rolling stock for the Wales and Borders network.
The purchase of Pullman means no change to business activity, with Pullman Rail Ltd remaining a stand-alone business and their services will continue to be delivered under the Pullman brand.
TfW CEO James Price says: “High performing and enterprising, Pullman reflect many of TfW’s own values. Pullman has been operating in the UK for more than 25 years, delivering high quality products and services. This technical expertise, quality workmanship and innovation are integral to the UK rail industry, ensuring legacy fleet can be maintained.
“TfW are proud to be aligned with this strong heritage and of the opportunities this partnership will present for the growth of both organisations in the future, in improving rail services for our passengers and securing jobs locally in Wales.”
