The Llangollen Railway Great Western Locomotive Group (LRGWLG) have released their latest update concerning the plans for Great Western Railway (GWR) 4575 No.5532.
Boiler
The update focuses on 5532’s boiler, with the LRGWLG holding a meeting on April the 9th regarding it. After receiving several quotes on restoring the boiler, the group voted in favour of having the boiler restored at the Llangollen Railway.
This decision was made on both cost and craftsmanship grounds, with all associated costs being cheaper by choosing Llangollen Railway and the line’s boilersmiths producing excellent work.
With the quote accepted, work will hopefully start at the end of 2018/early 2019, once current contract jobs have been completed. Work on dismantling the boiler has been started but now requires boilersmiths to carry out the complex tasks.
Many components have also been purchased for the boiler, such as front tube plate and outer firebox back head, with only holes needed to be drilled before they are ready for fitting.
Fundraising
The boiler is the last key component that needs restoring for 5532 to steam again. The LRGWLG still need to raise more funds in order to compete for all the work the boiler requires. The group would appreciate any donation no matter how much, all donations play a vital part in helping fund work on the boiler.
