The time has come to bid farewell to Double Farlie ‘Earl of Merioneth’. Today, 8th April 2018, sees the Earl of Merioneth bow out of service on the Ffestiniog Railway ahead of a long period of rest.
Today, the locomotive has worn its own farewell headboard on its final two public trains, the 10:05 and 13:35, and the final staff train at 18:00.
The Ffestiniog Railway is also auctioning off the headboard to anyone over on eBay, with the proceeds going the Welsh Air Ambulance, if you would like to bid on this, please click here.
Above is also our tribute to the locomotive, looking at some of the shots we have taken over the years of this historic locomotive.
A brief history of Earl of Merioneth
‘Earl Of Merioneth’ is a 0-4-4-0 Double Farlie and was the 3rd locomotive built at Boston Lodge Works. The loco was complete in 1979 and was a replacement for No. 3 Livingston Thomspon (now at the National Railway Museum in York).
Farewell to ‘The Square’ we hope to see you sometime in the future.
