Wabtec has announced that it has received an order from Winning Consortium Simandou of around £200m for its Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives.
The locomotives will be used on an iron ore project in Eastern Guinea.
A few months ago, SimFer ordered locomotives from Wabtec for its operations at Simandou.
The locomotives have 4,500hp engines and have proven performance in the harsh temperatures in Eastern Guinea.
“As the world’s largest untapped high grade iron ore deposit, Simandou represents a transformational economic opportunity for Guinea, and Wabtec’s commitment extends beyond delivering advanced locomotive solutions to ensure the success of this critical initiative in partnership with WCS and SimFer. We are also committed to the development of Guinea by fostering local employment, developing indigenous talent, and empowering local businesses to support the operation and maintenance of this vital rail network.”

Good to see locomotive exports in the rail 200 year. The Wabtec order chimes nicely with the early railways tradirion of locomotives for mineral haulage as Simandou expands its operations.
