(TPE) has introduced an innovative way to provide anyone interested in pursuing a career in the railway industry with a virtual work experience programme that gives them the chance to take a look behind the scenes.

Working in partnership with the online careers platform Springpod, the programe takes potential employees through a course that shows them what it is like to work for TransPennine Express, find out how timetables are put together, what is needed to keep trains running on time, and what life is like working in key roles such as a station assistant or onboard catering.

The course comprises eight modules which participants can complete at their own pace. They include hands-on-activities. It includes the core skills required for employment in the railway industry, as well as communication, teamwork, and leadership.

The programme will run until Monday, 5th May 2025, and is particularly beneficial to school students as it is open to anyone aged 13 and above. All those completing the course will receive an appropriate certificate, which can be used to boost CVs, UCAS statements, and other applications.

“Whether you are just starting out, fancy a career change or just want to find out more about working on the railway, our virtual work experience course is a good place to start. It has been designed to give people transferable skills that are going to help build confidence to apply for opportunities either with TPE or other employers in the rail industry and beyond. TPE is now the fastest growing rail operator in the UK, and we want to provide employment opportunities within the communities we serve, as well as provide reliable services across the North of England and Scotland.
