The Moors Railway is offering the chance to get rid of the post-Christmas blues with a series of round trips from to the picturesque seaside town of .

The “Whitby Winter Excursions” will run every day from Friday, 27th December 2024 to Sunday, 5th January 2025 and passengers will enjoy the timeless beauty of heritage steam as they travel through the scenic North Yorkshire moors with views of frosty landscapes to the fishing port of Whitby.

Trains will start from Pickering at 11:10 am (except Sundays) on an approximately 1¾ hours journey to Whitby where visitors will have over 1½ hours in which to explore Whitby’s fascinating streets and harbour, before departing at 2:30 pm for the 1¾ hours return journey to Pickering.

The enchanting journey will be hauled by a heritage steam locomotive, and passengers will travel in the comfort of heritage carriages as they travel through breathtaking scenery and enjoy the serene beauty of snow-dusted moorland.

The excursions provide an ideal way to escape the indoors and create cherished memories while enjoying post-Christmas adventures. At Whitby there is so much to see including its charming harbour, the seasonal atmosphere of the seaside town, and its famous abbey which has so many connections with Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

As expected, tickets for the Winter Whitby Excursions are in great demand, and anyone who has an Unlimited Annual Pass can use it on these trips, but they must be booked online with a unique code. The an Unlimited Annual Pass costs £49.50 rate but visitors get 12 months free travel where they can hop on and off the standard Red, Blue, and Yellow services.

The Whitby Winter Excursions are besides other services the railway is running over the Christmas period, including the Christmas Pullman, Christmas Charters and Christmas Afternoon Tea.
