is warning drivers and pedestrians that the A641 Road / Northgate in will be closed for the first six weekends of 2025.

The closures, a repeated of those earlier this year, will include Fridays and early Monday mornings as well as Saturdays and Sundays.

The roads will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians.

Over the same weekends, there will be additional short, intermittent road closures on local roads New North Road, Castlegate and Green Street.

The road closures are necessary for engineers to carry out upgrade work as part of the (TRU).

Workers will be strengthening Huddersfield viaduct in preparation for the installation of new track.

Closing the roads will allow the workers to access the site, to transport and install a pre-cast concrete beam onto the viaduct. They will also carry out excavations, pour concrete and repair masonry.

As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, Huddersfield station will be remodelled. This will enable longer and faster trains to operate along the route between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York more frequently.

Train services through Huddersfield have been disrupted by TransPennine Route Upgrade work on various occasions this year.

Network Rail is urging road users to plan alternative routes for their journeys ahead of time. It recommends the Roadworks website for the latest information and the most up-to-date diversionary routes.

Network Rail will ensure that diversions are signposted along the affected roads with clear directions for the best routes to take.

Network Rail has acknowledged the inconvenience to the public and has expressed its thanks and appreciation for people’s patience.

“The work is required to enable us to install new track over the structure and through Huddersfield station. This will ultimately provide more capacity for faster and more reliable trains to run along the Transpennine line, providing a better experience for passengers who travel along this route.”
