Various Welsh railway lines remain closed after Storm Darragh

Transport for Wales is urging passengers to check before travelling, as a number of lines remain suspended after Storm Darragh.

No Transport for Wales service is operating on the Bidston – Central line. It was expected to reopen at 8 am, but there is no confirmation that this has happened yet.

No Avanti West Coast or Transport for Wales services are running between Holyhead and Chester – there is also no service to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

For Shrewsbury and Cambrian Line passengers, trains are suspended between Shrewsbury and International / Swansea (via Heart of Wales) / (suspended between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth and Pwllheli)

Ticket acceptance is in place with West Midlands Railway and there is a limited bus service running however, there is no bus service for the Cambrian and Line.

No Transport for Wales services will run between Pembroke Dock / Milford Haven / .

Finally, the line between Maesteg and Bridgend is expected to be closed until 2 pm and no service will run.

  1. Weds 11th Midday: Just checked live train times. Aberystwyth – Machynlleth – Shrewsbury showing as running. Machynlleth – Pwllheli and Blaenau Ffestiniog – Llandudno still suspended.

    I seriously don’t envy the Orange Army digging our rail network out right now. If that’s you, just to let you know your efforts are seriously appreciated.

  2. Since every other operator is running Shrewsbury to Birmingham, why TfW can’t manage it is nothing to do with storm damage to infrastructure. They’ve got so many other services cancelled it can’t be due to a lack of stock either.

    1. There will be a great reason given that cuts you dead, but I can’t help thinking that some arem trying hard enough to run at least something approaching a service rather than closing a massive stretch of line.
