Normal service on most Southeastern routes over Christmas and New Year

Train operator Southeastern has announced that most of its services will be running as over the and New Year period, and off-peak fares will apply every day from Friday, 27 December to New Years Day, Wednesday, 1st January 2025.

However, major engineering work taking place elsewhere may affect passengers’ journeys, especially Thameslink services through central London.

In the run-up to Christmas, on Sunday, 22nd rail- replacement bus services will be in place between:
and and Tunbridge Wells, and between Dover Priory and Ramsgate .

A Saturday timetable will apply on Monday, 23rd and Tuesday, 24th December, when there will be no trains after approximately 22:00.

There will be no trains on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, and on Friday, 27th December, a Saturday timetable will apply.

Sunday, 29th December

  • Rail-replacement bus services will be in place between Margate & .

Monday, 30th and Tuesday, 31st December

  • A Saturday timetable will apply with extra trains on some routes.

Tuesday, 31st December

  • There will be no trains from Waterloo East after 23:30.
  • Additional late-night trains will run after midnight from Charing Cross, Victoria and London Bridge.

Wednesday, 1st January

  • A Sunday timetable will apply except for a rail- replacement bus services between Folkestone Central and Deal, Canterbury East and Dover Priory, and Sevenoaks, Maidstone East & Ashford.

Thursday, 2nd and Friday, 3rd January

  • A Saturday timetable will apply with extra trains on some routes.

Saturday, 4th January

  • A Saturday timetable will apply.

Sunday 5 January

  • A normal Sunday timetable will apply except for rail- replacement bus services between:
    • Greenwich and Dartford via Sidcup
    • Lewisham and
    • Swanley and Borough Green & Wrotham
    • Canterbury West and Ramsgate
    • Deal and Ramsgate

Southeastern is currently expanding its operating fleet with an additional 13 trains due to enter service by the end of next year. it is also reminding customers that their usual train times may have changed because of the introduction of a new timetable yesterday, Sunday, 15th December.

“Most of our railway is open as usual over Christmas to make it easier for people to get home or to visit family and friends. Off-peak fares will apply every day between 27 December and 1 January.


“We’ve recently celebrated some record-breaking post-pandemic days for the number of passengers using Southeastern and with one train removing up to 500 cars from the roads, taking our trains is one of the most environmentally sustainable ways to travel.”
