As the deadline for the National Railway Museum and the Railway Photographic Society’s Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition gradually gets ever closer, a new sponsor has been announced.
The UK branch of the internationally acclaimed photographic company FUJIFILM, known for their high-quality cameras and photographic imaging, has become joint sponsors of the competition, which has lead to new top prizes to be won in this year’s competition which closes on January 31st 2025.
Three X-T5 Silver digital cameras with XF16-50mm lenses are being donated as prizes by FUJIFILM UK, which will be awarded to the winners of each age category.
This is already on top of other prizes which were previously announced which include an exclusive private guided tour of Network Rail’s Newest Measurement Train, a cab simulator experience at GB Railfreight, along with tickets to heritage railways, and other smaller prizes.
The competition has two age categories, the Under 18s and the 19-25 category.
Those young participants who wish to enter the 2024 competition must submit a portfolio of six photographs that capture the essence of ‘Railway 200‘.
The images can encompass a variety of subjects, including railway and carriage designs, architectural elements, structural details, travel narratives, railway environments, or examples of innovation and creativity.
Entries from all levels of photographic skill, from amateurs to professionals, are welcomed with participants using any photographic equipment, including smartphones.
Winning entries will take part in the National Railway Museum’s Railway 200 Celebrations in 2025 and will go on display at both York and Shildon.
“We are pleased to support the Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition as the nation marks 200 years of rail history.
The railways have always inspired incredible photography, whether it’s the intricate details of station architecture, the dynamic power of locomotives, or the ever-changing landscapes that they pass through. We are excited to see the creativity of young photographers and the unique perspectives they will bring to our rich rail heritage.”

The Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition is jointly organized by the Railway Photographic Society and receives support from FUJIFILM UK, Network Rail, Mortons Media, GB Railfreight (GBRf), and Amateur Photographer Magazine.
