Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express trains are running again after a tree blocked the West Coast Main Line yesterday (26th September).

The tree fell onto overhead wires between Lockerbie and Carstairs, meaning that most services running north of Carlisle were cancelled at either Preston or Carlisle.

Network Rail staff were on site well into the night repairing the overhead wires that had been damaged by the fallen tree.

Both operators have said that tickets for travel yesterday are valid for any service today (27th September).

Passengers are being advised by Avanti West Coast to ‘expect alterations’ due to multiple incidents on the network.

They say that trains may be delayed by up to 30 minutes until 9 am whilst trains get into position.
