Lancashire man charged after police officer ‘stabbed’ at Preston railway station

The British Transport Police has announced that a charge has been made after a serious assault at Preston railway station.

At around 9:30 pm on the 7th September, an on-duty British Transport Police officer was seriously assaulted.

Paramedics were called to Preston railway station and took the officer to hospital with injuries consistent with being stabbed.

Thankfully, the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening/changing.

Russel Smith, who is 53 from Preston, has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder and one count of Possession of a Bladed Article.

Mr Smith has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Preston Magistrates Court this morning (09/09).
