Concrete segments that will be used on the 5-mile Northolt Tunnel have been completed, marking a major milestone for PACADAR UK.
PACADAR UK began making the segments in April 2022 and has completed all 59,129 segments, which make up the 8,446 tunnel rings.
Tunnel Boring Machines install the segments, which weigh around 7 tonnes on average.
The segments are transported by rail from the Kent factory to West Ruislip, with each train removing 56 lorries off the road.
HS2 Ltd says that PACADAR LTD will continue to work on other parts of the HS2 project, including pre-casting segments for the Thame Valley Viaduct in Buckinghamshire.
“We are making significant progress on constructing HS2’s London Tunnels and the work is a team effort across a number of contractors, including PACADAR UK. We are pleased to work with UK based companies to complete the Britain’s newest high-speed railway”
Malcolm Codling, HS2’s Project Client for the London Tunnels
