Metrolink services between Oldham Mumps and Rochdale town have been suspended since the 10th of July.
This was due to a landslip which moved the track and affected overhead lines. This meant that replacement bus services had to be put in place.
Engineering work has been in place since to make the track safe for use again.
Metrolink engineers have moved 200 metres of track back into the correct position, using around 100 tonnes of ballast and realigning the overhead wire poles.
This is temporary work that will be worked on to improve the line and ensure another slip doesn’t happen.
This work will be carried out over the next 12 to 24 months.
Now the work has been completed, the line between Oldham Mumps and Rochdale will be reopening on Monday 19th August.
“The safety of our customers and staff is our highest priority and this was a serious landslip which affected the tracks and overhead line poles. The decision to suspend services was not taken lightly but the extent of the movement meant it was no longer safe to operate trams.
“Thanks to the round-the-clock efforts of our Metrolink engineers and groundwork specialists’ repairs are now close to completion with test trams planned to operate over the coming days in advance of opening for start of service on Monday morning.”
Pete Sommers, TfGM’s Director for Metrolink
