Throughout June, the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) raised over £90,000 for current and former railway staff who have fallen on hard times.
The charity ran three fundraising events across last month those being:
- A railtour from Crewe to York & Scarborough hauled by Class 40 locomotive D213 ‘Andania'. Named the Bucket & Spade, this train took supporters to the popular seaside resort, where they enjoyed a fantastic day out in glorious weather.
- The Auction of Rail Experiences was a much-awaited event, showcasing more than forty distinctive experiences ranging from private depot tours, to the opportunity to play trains with record producer and rail enthusiast Pete Waterman OBE. The bidding was competitive and helped with the fundraising.
- The 20th Annual Charity Golf Day witnessed enthusiastic participation from twenty teams. John Fitzgerald was honoured with a special award for his exceptional contribution to the event since its inception in 2004. RBF is very grateful to their sponsor, Transport Group UK.
Thanks to these events, this remarkable £90,000 achievement will offer crucial assistance to railway families throughout the UK..

Established in 1858, the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) is a charity dedicated to assisting both retired and current railway employees during difficult periods.
Someone reaches out to the RBF every four minutes, and it is through the kindness of donors that the charity can provide advice, grants, online resources, and a legal helpline to those in need during unprecedented times in life's unpredictable journey.
The RBF helps workers from all aspects of railway operation, from those who work on passenger and goods trains, civil and mechanical engineering, through to those that are part of the supply chain and other important services.
