At the end of July, the railway promises to take children on a historic journey through the power of steam with a Steam Powered Adventure, which follows a Steam Science Show last year.

A team from the educational hub of Boardroom Gaming Café R.O.L.L. will provide an interactive educational experience for children and adults.

On Tuesday, 30th and Wednesday, 31st July, families and like-minded folks will find out the secrets of steam power, and the forces coming from locomotives. Supported by a variety of exciting activities, tabletop, and oversized games, the event promises to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

The event is designed to inspire children of all ages at multiple levels. They will get the opportunity to board a steam locomotive and take a journey through the Staffordshire Moorlands.

A highly interactive show will use imploding atmospheric cans and fire expansion to provide an amazing demonstration of the power of steam.

Participants can also experiment with potential and kinetic energy by building their own hovercrafts using CDs and balloons.

The Steam Powered Adventure starts at Froghall station and travels by train to the charming village of Consall, which is only accessible by rail for the demonstration.

Just under two hours will be spent at Consall before catching the return train to Froghall.

At Consall, visitors will be entertained and amazed by the R.O.L.L. team and Churnet Valley Railway volunteers, and a tuck shop will be open for refreshments.

The tea room at Froghall will also be open for anyone arriving early. Steam Powered Adventure is an extra event in addition to the railway's regular mid-week breakfast and lunch dining trains.

Last March, the Churnet Valley Railway recreated the final runs of Great Western Railway No. 4079 Pendennis Castle, and the last steam-hauled Cambrian Cost express.
