On Wednesday, 26th June, Polish regional operator Koleje Mazowieckie and Stadler signed a framework agreement for the supply of 50 state-of-the-art FLIRT electrical multiple unit trains for the region of Masovia.
The order is considered to be of great importance for Masovia and will further improve the comfort and safety of train travel between Warsaw and Masovian cities and towns.
The agreement includes maintenance of the fleet, and with the maintenance has a contract value of €750 million, which the EU will co-finance within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan for Poland.
The latest framework contract includes four executive agreements for the purchase of 14, 11, 14 and 11 units respectively, and their maintenance for 18 years.
As well as signing the framework agreement, the first two executive contracts were signed to mark the start of the project to build the first 25 trains, which are scheduled for delivery within 24 months.
The new trains have a lightweight aluminium body with spacious entrance areas and are easily accessible for people with wheelchairs, with bicycles, or pushchairs.
They are fitted with defibrillators, air-conditioning, CCTV, a visual and audio information system, and Wi-Fi. Each unit has a capacity for 600 passengers, with 279 seated, and intercoms allow contact with the driver in case of an emergency.
Stadler has been involved with Koleje Mazowieckie since 2006, when Stadler was awarded a contract for ten FLIRT trains for Masovia and four for Silesia, which led to Stadler opening a production plant in Siedlce for their construction.
In 2018, Stadler signed another framework agreement with Koleje Mazo for the Siedlce plant to manufacture and deliver 61 latest-generation FLIRT trains from 2020 to 2023.
In 2020, Stadler secured a £99m order to supply trams for the Polish city of Cracow.
Other locomotive manufacturers are also active in Poland, as last March signed an order with the Polish intermodal transport group CLIP Intermodal to supply 13 third-generation Traxx multi-system locomotives.
Koleje Mazowieckie is an important client and partner for us . Stadler's operations in Poland were initiated thanks to the first order for Masovia and Silesia. Subsequent orders allowed us to expand our production work in Siedlce and keep on extending our partnership with local suppliers.
The new order from Koleje Mazowieckie brings added value to the region and the industry. Increased production at the Siedlce plant means continued development of the site in Poland as well as further orders for numerous local partners and suppliers.
