Northern is advising passengers of short term cancellations this Sunday, 30th June.
Trains are reportedly showing in Journey Planners but will not run this Sunday, with the operator working to update this as soon as possible.
Northern is urging passengers to plan ahead as trains may finish earlier than planned.
However, the following routes will not be served by Northern throughout the day, and rail replacement buses will not operate:
- Morecambe – Lancaster
- Stalybridge – Wigan North Western (via Bolton)
- Colne – Preston
- Clitheroe – Blackburn
- Chester – Manchester Victoria
- Stoke-on-Trent – Manchester Piccadilly

Greedy unions inept train company a recipe for disaster
The amount of times I’ve used this service and then trains are being cancelled after a delay is ridiculous, ive never known anything like it, it’s seriously unreliable and some of the ticket guards are seriously rude and discriminating, jump on the train with 10 people they target certain people and check their tickets first and the look when you show your ticket is laughable
Waste of effort by Aslef new government soon
A new Government? Do you think that this “new Government” will wave a magic wand and make these train labour disputes disappear? And will the rail unions stop making their ” gold plated” demands because there is a new Government?
Absolute joke these train drivers. £1000 to operate a computer driven train and the greedy tw*ts want more.

What is the point of having a railway if we cannot rely on it.The ASLEF driver’s dispute needs settling asap.
This isn’t totally about the on-going dispute, it’s noticeable that these services are all on the Western side of the company, where the drivers don’t have Sundays within the working week, as opposed to the Eastern side. As such, Sunday is overtime and they are not compelled to work. Northern did try to resolve this pre-COVID but no agreement could be reached with the ‘New Deal for Drivers’ and then COVID kicked in.
Well if that’s correct (is. your comment about western based staff having different rest day procedures), then what to stop an arrangement been made across all of Northern’s operating territory? Why is this a problem on other operators too.The rail unions are destroying many people’s confidence in using the rail.For example, I wouldn’t rely on the tran to take me to Manchester Airport, as I have been let down and inconvenienced so many times.
