Škoda Group to deliver new electric trains to run in Czech Republic

Škoda Group is to deliver twenty-three new electric units to RegioJet, which is the largest private railway carrier in Central Europe.

The trains will be used in the , with fifteen having two cars and eight trains having three. The order is worth around 133 million euros.

Škoda explains that its electric trains are already popular in the Czech Republic for regional transport.

It employs eight thousand people at several production sites in the Czech Republic and Finland, and is providing trams to the Czech city of Brno.

The new order aims to cover 3.3 million kilometres per year over a period of fifteen years, which the manufacturer says will “substantially enhance both service quality and capacity”.

The units will be customised to RegioJet's specific needs, and will be delivered for use in the Ústí nad Labem Region by the end of 2026.

The units have low floors and are designed to run on suburban and regional lines. They will be able to achieve speeds of up to 160 km/h. The two-car unit will be 53 metres long with 142 seats, while the three-car unit will be 80 metres long with 228 seats. The vehicles will include a first-class compartment.

The electric units aim to provide comfort for passengers, and feature a fully air-conditioned interior,
Wi-Fi, 230V power sockets, USB sockets, barrier-free entrances and interior, ergonomic seats, and spacious storage areas for bicycles and prams.

Each is equipped with an accessible toilet, while the three-car unit additionally includes one standard toilet.

The vehicles' safety features comply with the latest rail industry standards. They use cutting-edge technology, including European Train Control System () equipment, which Škoda has also fitted on other vehicles.
