Members of the public are being advised to check before travelling to the Ministry of Defence commemorative event to mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.

The events are being held on the 5th June 2024, with the easiest method of getting to Portsmouth is by using rail services to station.

From the station, there will be a bus service to get people to within walking distance of the event.

Some road closures will be in place, so those driving are asked to use the park and ride facility where buses will depart every 15 minutes.

Other events are set to take place on the 3rd June, 5th June, 6th June and 8th June to mark the anniversary and people are asked to check with local road / rail companies for the latest travel advice, with some events being invite only.

“We’re proud that Portsmouth has been chosen for these national commemorations of D-Day 80. We’ve organised free buses from Portsmouth & Southsea station and from the park and ride, to make it as easy as possible for people to get to the event, and we’ve been working with the MOD, the police, and other stakeholders to ensure it takes place securely and safely.

Cllr Steve Pitt, leader of the council
