In a heartfelt tribute to the late John Price, a former driver for the , his widow, Debbie Price, has made a significant donation to the railway’s ‘Survival Fund’.

The amount, totalling £1,510, was presented by Mrs Price and added to the funds previously collected at Mr Price’s funeral, bringing the total contribution in his memory to £2,000.

John Price’s career with the Severn Valley Railway began in March 1975 when he joined as a fireman, later advancing to the role of a driver. His tenure on the railway spanned an impressive 47 years, during which he reportedly drove a remarkable 1,000,000 miles.

Before his long-standing service with the Severn Valley Railway, Mr Price’s railway career commenced in 1962 at British Railways, where he started as an engine cleaner at Tyseley. His retirement marked an extraordinary 60 years of dedication to the railway industry.

This generous donation in his memory is a testament to his enduring legacy and commitment to the railways.

The Severn Valley Railway launched its ‘Survival Fund‘ in April 2023 with the ambition of raising £1.5 million to provide a much needed cash boost in order to counter lower revenue and the increasing costs associated with running the railway.
