London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has today (Tuesday 5 December) unveiled a chocolate Sharing Station at Waverley station.

The sharing station has been set up in celebraton of the release of the new Warner Brothers Pictures’ film Wonka, which will start showing in cinemas on Friday (December 8). Its carts are inspired by Wonka’s burgundy coat.

LNER invited travellers to “channel their inner Wonka” and send a chocolate bar to loved ones around the country. Expert calligraphers scribed the public’s messages onto golden notes, which were then enclosed with a chocolate bar and posted.

The operator says that it “wants to encourage the nation to show appreciation to the special people in our lives by expressing how we truly feel for friends and family”.

The attraction proved popular, with queues forming and messages being composed and dispatched. Some messages are on display on a screen at the station for rush-our commuters to read.

LNER is also running a competition in which one passenger will have the chance to win a weekend trip for four, including First Class tickets to , a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed afternoon tea, spending money and a two-night hotel stay.

The LNER Sharing Station will arrive at London’s King’s Cross station this Thursday (7 December), as the train operator continues to spread festive cheer across the country.

David Flesher, Commercial Director at LNER said: “At LNER, we are much like Willy Wonka, we love putting a little magic into what we do…and chocolate of course! And for this reason, we couldn’t wait for the public to see our chocolate Sharing Stations. They really are spreading festive cheer and what better way to tell someone you love them than with a delicious chocolate bar and a beautifully written heartfelt letter!”

  1. Pity they can’t stop the strikes and cancellations. Also pay out full refunds when you use LNER telesales and treat you as a criminal when they say they didn’t receive the tickets back for a refund. Eventually give you not half back when you make a fuss🤬
