Nottingham-based rail supply firm Belvoir Rail has begun working with Rail Safe Friendly to promote rail safety awareness in schools.
Rail Safe Friendly is run by digital education provider Learn Live, which launched it in March 2023. It aims to educate children and young people about the potential risks around the railway, including electrified tracks and overhead cables.
Learn Live delivers live and on-demand rail safety broadcasts to classrooms and assembly halls. With the support of Network Rail‘s Trespass Improvement Team, the Rail Safe Friendly initiative has so far engaged over 1,400 schools across the UK. In July, Network Rail took part in a Learn Live broadcast to 2,427 secondary schools on its Western route from Paddington to Penzance.
Belvoir Rail will sponsor ten local schools as part of the Rail Safe Friendly initiative, and will play a part in delivering content for students, teachers and parents. It joins other rail companies in supporting the Rail Safe Friendly program. Their collective aim is to ensure comprehensive rail safety education reaches all UK schools by 2025.
James Brown, Managing Director of Belvoir Rail said: “Partnering with Rail Safe Friendly was an easy decision for us. We’re committed to ensuring young people and our local communities understand the risks associated with the railway environment. By providing rail safety education to children and parents, we’re taking a proactive approach to prevent accidents. Early awareness is crucial, and that’s why we’re proud to support this initiative.”
