Network Rail has released travel advice for passengers after a hotel at Ayr station caught fire last night.

Firefighters are still at the scene fighting the fire and railway staff are working with the emergency services.

Initial indications show that Network Rail wont be able to access the station for at least the next 36 hours to assess the damage to the railway.

ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Ayr will terminate at Irvine, and services between Stranraer and Ayr will terminate at Girvan.

Passengers are advised to check before travelling for alternative travel arrangements.

Liam Sumpter, route director, Network Rail Scotland said: “Our team is on-site at Ayr station and working with the emergency services, including the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, who are still fighting the hotel fire.

“It’s a developing situation and unfortunately, no trains will run while we assess when the station can re-open.”
