Alfie Lamb is a finance business partner with Northern and has been given the accolade of ‘Rising Star of the Year’ at The Finance Awards North West, which was held in Manchester on Saturday the 8th of June.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement whilst promoting businesses and individuals that contribute to the economy and employment in the North West.

Alfie started working with Northern in the finance division back in 2018 and has now been recognised for his efforts and described by the awards organiser as ‘the most passionate, driven and delivery focused part-qualified finance professional in the market, someone who is high achieving and outperforming their peer group.’

The ‘Rising Star of the Year’ category saw Alfie compete with other part-qualified professionals from CableWorld Ltd, Stobart, J Murphy & Sons, THG Ltd, Manchester Airports Group and Light & Wonder.

Alfie said: “I’m really proud to have been named a ‘rising star’ of the industry I love.”

“Northern is a great place to work and I’m very fortunate to have so many inspiring colleagues from across the business that are the top of their game that I can learn from.”

Prior to working for the rail operator’s finance division, Alfie studied accounting and finance at Liverpool John Moores University and previously worked as an IT Field Engineer for Northern.

2018 Saw Alfie become a financial planning assistant and then moved to be an assistant financial accountant from 2019 to 2021 and from 2021 to 2023, took on the role of financial controls and management information accountant before becoming a finance business partner earlier in the year.

The Finance Awards North West are organised in a collaboration between recruitment agency Robert Walters, audit consultants RSM, banking giant HSBC and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
