The Moors Railway has announced thatt they have had to make the switch to diesel power due to the fire risk during the current weather conditions.

Yesterday (25th May 2023), a lineside fire occurred on the railway, and the decision was made off the back of the fire.

Along with this comes a change in the planned timetable, with Chris Price advising passengers to check the NYMR website before visiting.

Additionally, the railway has cancelled its planned Goods Train Demonstration which was planned for the 28th May – this is due to lack of locomotive availability.

Chris Price, CEO of the North Moors Railway (NYMR) said: “Due to the lineside fire that took place (Thursday 25th May) we can confirm that we will be operating our heritage diesel fleet along the heritage line until we see a change in weather conditions. Due to this there will be changes to our planned timetable, so please check the website in advance of visiting.”

“We apologise to those passengers impacted; the safety of both staff and passengers is always our priority. We would like to thank the North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service for all their assistance.”

  1. When I was eight and living in Hamilton back in 1968, before diesel had come in. I don’t remember lineside fires, mainly because trees and bushes were not allowed to grow so close to the track.
I think when track maintenance is done ALL vegetation should be cut down.
