has been supporting the Armed Forces community within its workplace and is delighted to have been awarded the Silver Award from the Ministry of Defence.

The rail operator has taken part in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which was created to enable employers to support Defence People whilst encouraging others to do the same.

The scheme sees serving and former Armed Forces community members employed by the companies taking part, alongside using an adaptive approach towards training and mobilisation commitments for both Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

TransPennine Express’ achievement with the scheme has been ongoing since 2022, following an agreement pledging support to the Armed Forces community which saw them reach the Bronze Level Award for the Employer Recognition Scheme.

Dan Fox, Community Manager for TransPennine Express, said:

“To be awarded the Silver Level award for the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme is a great honour, and it we hope that it will serve as a visible badge representing the ongoing support we provide to Defence people within our business.”

“The Armed Forces, and those who serve, are assets to our nation, and it is by them that we are defended and supported when all isn’t right with the world. We’re thrilled that as a business we can to provide this level of support to Defence People, be that while they’re actively serving as a reservist, or upon their return to civilian life as a veteran.”

“Both the Armed Forces Covenant and the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme are fantastic initiatives which bring the importance of support to the forefront of any organisation. Achieving this award not only enables us to further demonstrate the importance we place on Defence People, but also aids us as we look forward to what additional support we can provide into the future.”

Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Reserve & Cadets), Major General Marc Overton said:

“I would like to thank and congratulate the recipients of this year’s Employer Recognition Scheme Silver . A Silver award recognises the fantastic efforts of employers throughout the UK who have both elevated their commitments under the Armed Forces Covenant and provided actual benefits to the Armed Forces Community.”

“The winners should all be proud of their life-changing impact and fresh opportunities they are providing to our Reservists, veterans and their families. The number of winners this year yet again shows that the Armed Forces family talent pool is also providing tangible business benefit.”

  1. It is good that TPE have been awarded the silver 🥈, just a pity that the company doesn’t actually exist now as it has been taken in to public ownership. I think that should have happened years ago.

    1. When the existed they seemed to prefer pursuing awards and sending their management team of courses for this (Carbon Literacy, this one and some others) to actually attending to the business of running trains.
