MP for Blyth Valley, Ian Levy has visited multi-award-winning tech company Transmission Dynamics at its location in , Northumbria. The MP enjoyed a chance to explore the company’s innovative work, including remote condition monitoring and infrastructure maintenance.

Specialising in pioneering Internet of Things solutions, Transmission Dynamics is able to offer truly remote condition monitoring alongside predictive maintenance solutions thanks to information gathered by machine learning and artificial intelligence. The company’s innovations are delivering state-of-the-art technology to the rail industry as part of its “Trains with Brains®” programme, which has a focus on remote condition monitoring:

  • Overhead wires
  • Rail track
  • Rolling stock using bespoke train-borne instrumentation

Transmission Dynamics solutions are delivering changes which will alter global rail practices for infrastructure maintenance, which in turn provides increased reliability and safety whilst cutting delays and the financial impacts they create.

Making use of the latest data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies, the company has built a number of systems which detect and deal with possible issues throughout the rail network.

The visit saw the MP get a chance to speak with the specialist colleagues at Transmission Data and also witness first-hand the complex processes required in order to carry out remote condition monitoring and infrastructure management revealing the company’s vital role in safeguarding the railway in terms of reliability and safety.

Mr Levy also got a chance to find out more about the company’s PANDAS V®, Smart Oil Plug® and SmartBugs® technologies which monitor the health of trains by enabling real-time monitoring of essential infrastructure and components which lead to efficient maintenance, reducing the risk of breakdowns.

Mr Levy’s visit was organised as part of the ‘Rail Fellowship Programme’.
