Northern to operate a new direct Sunday service between Leeds and Chester

Passengers travelling with from will be able to take advantage of a direct connection to on Sundays as the rail operator’s new summer timetable comes into play this weekend. 

The first of the Sunday services from Leeds to Chester will leave at 9.43am and arrive in Chester at 12.08pm, with hourly services departing at 43 minutes past the hour. The final service will leave Leeds at 7.44pm and arrive in Chester at 10.08pm.

Direct Sunday services from Chester to Leeds will leave Chester station at 9.25am and will arrive in Leeds at 11.36am, with hourly services departing at 25 minutes past the hour. The final service will leave Chester at 8.25pm and will arrive in Leeds at 10.38pm.

The new service will have over 200 seats available.

Tony Baxter, regional director for Northern, said: “We’re pleased to be able to offer this new service, making it easier than ever for the people of West Yorkshire to visit the historic city of Chester.”

“With more than 2,700 seats available in each direction, we hope this service proves popular with day trippers, who can leave the car on the drive and let the train take the strain.”

The addition of the Leeds to Chester Sunday service comes as part of the rail operator’s new summer timetable, which comes into effect on Sunday the 21st of May. The new timetable will see most services unchanged. However, advice has been given to people who travel regularly with the rail operator to use the ‘Check My Timetable’ facility on its website in order to be sure of specific train times for their local station.

  1. Northern could have ordered more Class 195 DMU and Class 331 EMU Civity to replace the ageing rolling stocks used on Northern’s electrified and non-electrified services across their network.
