The latest visitor to be announced for next month’s Keighley and Worth Valley Railway‘s Diesel Gala is Class 47 47712 Lady Diana Spencer.
The Gala takes place from Friday, 23rd to Sunday, 25th June, and 47712 will be operating on the Worth Valley over all three days complete with its ScotRail Push/Pull set.
Other Guest Locomotives at the Gala include:
- British Railway Class 26 No. 26038 Tom Clift, which was built in 1959 as No. D5338. It was mostly based at Inverness, where it worked for 33 years before withdrawal in 1992. In 2013 it was named Tom Clift 1954-2012 in honour of lifelong railwayman Tom Clift, who had been appointed the new head of Hull Trains shortly before his sudden death.
- British Railway Class 37 No. 37403 Isle of Mull, which was delivered new to Landore depot in Swansea, and renumbered 37307 in 1974. In 1984 it was selected as one of 25 locomotives converted to work passenger trains in Scotland over the West Highland and Oban lines. It was refurbished and fitted with electric train heating and renumbered 37403. and in 1986 was appropriately named Isle of Mull.
- A pair of BR Class 43 HSTs, which is one of the world’s most iconic trains.
- D9520 Class 14 which was built in 1964 and allocated to Cardiff Canton, before transfer to Hull in 1967. In 1968 it was purchased by Stewart& Lloyds Minerals Ltd. for work at Glendon Quarries near Kettering where it became No. 24 and was used to haul wagons of ironstone from the quarries to exchange sidings from where BR then hauled the trains to Corby Iron and Steel Works.
- British Railway Class 50 No. 50008 Thunderer will arrive at the Gala on Sunday 25th June hauling the Branch Line Society’s ‘Eyre Valley Explorer’; which will be top & tailed with Class 37 No. 37418
