Alstom has been awarded contracts worth €54 million to design, manufacture, supply, install, test, and commission train-control and signalling solutions for several lines on Delhi’s Metro Network.

The contract will cover MRTS Phase-IV Mukundpur – Maujpur (Line 7 ext.), and Aerocity – Tughlakabad Corridor (Line 10). Alstom will equip these lines with its scalable communications-based train control solutions (CBTC), which will operate in conjunction with its Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) system.

Overall, the solution is expected to reduce energy consumption by up to 30%. CBTC also has the advantage that it can improve the capacity, efficiency, reliability, and safety of metro lines, and reduce operating costs for operators.

Alstom has a long relationship in supplying solutions to Delhi Metro and has delivered over 800 metro cars for the Delhi Metro network. In November last year, the company was awarded a contract to design, manufacture, supply, test, and commission 312 standard gauge metro cars for the Phase IV expansion of the Delhi Metro.

In the past, Alstom has partnered with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for several other projects, including the supply and commissioning of train control and signalling systems for DMRC’s Red Line (L1), (Yellow Line (L2), Green Line (L5), Violet Line (L6), Pink Line (L7) during Phase I, II & III.

The Delhi Metro network currently consists of about 391 km with 286 stations and extends beyond Delhi’s boundaries to Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, and to Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh and Ballabhgarh in Haryana.
