The Middleton Railway has revealed that its Youth Team has been shortlisted for the annual  brand new ‘Rising Stars Award' category which celebrates the achievement of organisations and groups which are under ten years old.

The heritage railways Youth Team has been operating for around six years now and has approximately ten members aged between 14 and 25 years.

The Youth Team initiative provides a structured route into the heritage rail sector for young people who wish to focus on either engineering, heritage or more commercial careers.

The programme also brings an increase in the railway's capacity which in turn provides opportunities for future position planning alongside improving employability skills.

The Youth Team has already seen a number of its members go on to achieve employment based on their passion created whilst working as part of the programme.

The Rising Star Award will see organisations from across the country shortlisted and Middleton Railway is delighted that they are through to the final.

The Heritage Rail Awards which celebrated its 60th-anniversary last year, will take place in Birmingham on the 11th of March 2023.
