The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is preparing for its Festive season by announcing delicious menus that will be served on its popular Christmas dining experiences.
Christmas Moorlander and Christmas Buffet Lunches run throughout December and provide a memorable dining experience while travelling by train through the North York Moors National Park.
The services will run every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from Thursday, 1st to Sunday, 18th December, and on Wednesday, 21st, Thursday, 22nd, and Friday, 23rd December, and will depart from Grosmont station at midday.
Christmas Moorlander Lunch
The Christmas Moorlander Lunch is served in heritage carriages decked out with Christmas decorations. Diners can enjoy a warming glass of mulled wine, followed by a starter of either Spiced Root Vegetable Soup, Goats Cheese Curd, or Smoked Salmon Mousse.
For the main course, the railway’s Head Chef will prepare Traditional Roast Turkey, Rolled Pork Roulade, or Pumpkin, Chestnut & Sage Wellington, all served with crispy roast potatoes, sprouts, and honey roast carrots & parsnips.
If diners have room, they can indulge in a traditional Christmas Pudding, Apple & Wild Berry Crumble Tart, or a selection of cheeses.
On the return journey from Pickering freshly brewed Yorkshire tea or coffee and a mince pie will complete the offering.
Christmas Buffet Lunch
For larger parties of guests of up to 18 people, they can charter the opulent Great Western Saloon carriage to enjoy a Christmas Buffet Lunch. This features a selection of savoury dishes including a Cold Meat Platter, Smoked Salmon Platter, Traditional Pork Pie, and Cheese and Broccoli Quiche, all accompanied by artisan breads and a mixed leaf salad.
Desserts to follow include a choice of a zesty lemon tart, moist fruit cake slice, and mince pies from Stonehouse Bakery, whilst for those with a savoury palate can choose from the selection of Yorkshire cheeses served with savoury crackers, celery, apple, grapes and Yorkshire chutney. The lunch also includes freshly brewed Yorkshire tea or coffee.
Konrad Wargacki, Head Chef at NYMR, said: “Festive dining doesn’t get any more special or memorable than this – we’ve thoroughly enjoyed putting together Christmas menus which complement the surroundings and season. It’s a really wonderful experience.”
Prices for the Christmas Moorlander menu start at £78, and the Christmas Buffet Lunch in the Great Western Saloon, which caters for up to 18 people, is priced at £1450 with an optional welcome drink and canapé reception.
Throughout the journey, children aged 5 to 14 years old can enjoy unlimited soft drink refills.
