Passengers who went to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at St Giles Cathedral were supported by train operator CrossCountry.

They put a train in place at Edinburgh station over night to shelter passengers waiting for early morning services.

Held on Platform 4, passengers were able to rest from 23:45 and they also received hot drinks and sandwiches.

Those on the train told stories of the Queen and shared memories.

There was a driver and engineer on the train alongside the catering and customer service staff to support those on the train.

LNER, ScotRail, National Rail and British Transport Police increased staff presence to help support customers.

CrossCountry Managing Director, Tom Joyner, said: “CrossCountry was honoured to be able to play a small part in supporting passengers who had travelled up to Edinburgh to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The train acted as a welcoming space for people to wait and seek refreshments before continuing their journeys the following morning. As a cross-border operator, running services across Great Britain, we were proud to be able to help at this significant time for our nation.”
