Nottingham Heritage Railway sees arrival of LNER B1 steam locomotive

LNER B1 No. 1264 has officially left the and has arrived at its new home of the Nottingham Heritage Railway.

Back in July, the Thompson B1 Locomotive Trust announced that the locomotive would be leaving the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and would find a new home in Ruddington.

1264 last ran at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 2019 but was withdrawn from traffic in March 2020 when cracks were found in the firebox.

The move was due to the journey distance between the trust member’s home and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

An overhaul is set to start soon and will see 1264 return to the mainline, with the NHR also gaining a mainline connection in the near future.

At the time of the announcement, Dave Horton, Secretary of the TBLT, said, “We are very grateful to have had the opportunity to operate at the NYMR over the last decade and we have made many friends there. However it has been a struggle to support the locomotive from such a distance and because many of our members and in particular our engineers are based in the Midlands, it is time to bring the loco closer to home. We are committed to keeping the locomotive available for both heritage railway and mainline work.”

  1. No. 61264 finished her days as a stationary boiler at Colwick loco due to the inner firebox wastage. She was a poor example of the class and was moved to Woodhams scrapyard at Barry Island.
