Families have plenty of fun-filled days to choose from at the East Lancashire Railway during the summer holidays including A Day Out with Thomas and for the very first time, Peppa Pig and Family will be visiting the railway.
The heritage railway has a fantastic selection of family summer events, including a brand new children’s adventure day alongside other family favourites.
Peppa Pig and Friends Fun Day:
The event will take place on Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th of August and will see the heritage railway welcome Peppa, George, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig for a wonderful fun-filled day out, which begins with a meet and greet at intervals at Bury Transport Museum.
The event will also see families able to take part in Peppa’s activity trail and continue the fun with a fun fair, expert balloon modellers, face painters, and a chance to meet farmyard friends at the petting zoo.
The day out also includes a journey through Irwell Valley on a real heritage steam or diesel train, which is included in the price of the ticket. Visitors can travel on whichever train works best for them on the day and can be worked around booked entrance times to meet Peppa and friends.
Day Out with Thomas:
This event will take place on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of August and will see everybody’s favourite little blue engine, Thomas the Tank Engine, return to the East Lancashire Railway following sell-out events earlier this year.
Visitors can meet Sir Topham Hatt at the station before heading onboard a carriage and riding behind Thomas through the countryside on a fun-filled trip to Ramsbottom station ahead of returning to Bury Station.
Back at Bury station, the fun continues just over the road at Bury Transport Museum which will host activities such as sing-a-longs with Sodor’s cheeky station sweepers Rusty & Dusty, balloon modelling, face painting and fun fair rides.
A Day Out with Thomas will also return in October.
The Wizarding Adventure:
This event will take place on Sunday the 3rd and Sunday the 31st of July and will see a magical adventure for visitors in this interactive day out for aspiring witches and wizards at the East Lancashire Railway.
Following The Wizarding Adventure selling out earlier this year, the spellbinding day returns with a chance for magicians to get together and enjoy mastering wand waving, improving broomstick skills and defeating evil forces.
Alongside wizard-themed activities and photo opportunities, visitors can also enjoy a two-hour train experience with the region’s best enchanters.
Bury Transport Museum:
Just over the road from East Lancs Railway’s Bury Station is Bury Transport Museum which brings to life the industrial heritage of the North West. The museum’s star attraction is the restored Castlecroft Goods Warehouse, which takes visitors back through the 20th century and reveals what life was like back in the day and featuring interactive exhibits and full-size vehicles.
Recently arriving at the museum is the new hero exhibit which will allow visitors to see the stunning Union of South Africa locomotive up close on static display. We were invited to see Union of South Africa on display earlier this year.
