East Midland Railway (EMR) has extended the complimentary food menu offered to First Class customers on its Intercity services to all day Monday to Saturday.
The complimentary food used to be available mornings only. But now, no matter what time they choose to travel, customers can choose from hot breakfast food, a range of cold items, and vegan and gluten-free options, as well as free food, snacks, and drinks on all EMR’s longer distance Intercity services.
The changes mean that the company will no longer offer complimentary food only on a small number of services, and only in the morning. EMR will now offer a range of free food and drink items on all its longer-distance Intercity services, all day, Monday to Saturday, and plans to extend the offer to Sundays in the future.
Customers travelling First Class during the morning can choose a hot complimentary bacon or sausage ciabatta, porridge, or a vegan breakfast burrito. On afternoon services, customers can choose from a chilled sandwich, wrap or salad, or the choice of a gluten-free meal or vegan option.
Accompanying the hot and chilled range is a wide choice of savoury and sweet items such as crisps, pretzels, cakes and brownies, as well as the option of gluten-free biscuits. The range of items served on board will change weekly to ensure variety for regular travellers.
EMR is also planning menus for standard class customers and will release details about these shortly.
Neil Grabham, Customer Services Director for East Midlands Railway, said: “We’ve reacted to the changing demands and travelling habits of our customers to offer this new modern menu to all our First Class customers.
“Now, regardless of the journey length or time of travel, First Class customers can benefit from complimentary food and drink throughout the working week and on Saturday too.
“For any customers who want something warm in the morning to get their day off to a good start, or just fancy a quick snack, our fully complimentary menu definitely delivers.”

It really would be beneficial if the non cherry lines could also benefit from some permanent catering. As an equivalent to the Waterloo to Weymouth timings, for the line Skegness to Grantham. It might add some compensation, also to the seats which cause numbness to the rear areas.
When the Class 810 Aurora AT300s have been built. What is happening with the Class 222 Meridians. Or will East Midlands Railway retain some of them. And the others to be cascaded to other operators or to be stored.
