The heritage railway has plenty of work to be tackled before reopening this spring, with work weekends planned in January on the following dates:
- Saturday the 15th of January
- Sunday the 16th of January
- Saturday the 29th of January
- Sunday the 30th of January
The work will take place from 10am until 4pm and will see multiple projects undertaken, such as a coach rebuild, building and repair work on SKLR’s oldest narrow gauge steam locomotive “Premier” back into service.
The SSR was originally opened in 1905 with its main purpose being the transportation of raw materials for the manufacture of paper and also the final product itself.
The line still uses the original steam locomotives and rolling stock that were used during its working life ahead of preservation in 1969 which is a very special feature on the well-loved volunteer-run heritage line.
