The locomotive had been totally stripped with sandblasting and priming of the Ivatt frame outside of their workshop which is based at the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) in Bury.
Sandblasting and priming had also been carried out on the boiler, which had been stored in the railways marshalling yards.
Preliminary work has been carried out on the pony truck assembly and features new swivel spindles which had been made with the assembly refurbished.
Recently, the restoration has seen the lifting of the Ivatt frame using a mobile rail crane from ELR, and has seen it fitted onto prepared transit bogies.
Following this, the frame could then be rolled into the group’s workshop where it was lifted onto stands so that the restoration assembly work can get underway.
During the same period of work, the boiler was also moved and craned into position just outside the group’s workshop.
The driving wheels have already been turned down ready for use and new steel for the cab roof has been offloaded nearby.
The placement of all the main Ivatt parts close to the workshop means that assembly can now get underway!
