Free travel for forces personnel and veterans on Remembrance Sunday from SWR

The free travel onboard trains will be available to service personnel, veterans and cadets travelling to Remembrance Sunday events on Sunday the 14th of November.

South Western Railway (SWR) is offering free travel which is funded via the to support their many staff members who are ex-armed forces personnel with the offer open to anyone travelling in uniform or able to show a form of identification.

SWR sees that the free travel as a great way for them to pay tribute to both serving and previous generations of servicemen and women.

Useful Information about accessing the free travel offer:

To take advantage of the free travel offer, current serving personnel or Cadets must be travelling in uniform or show a current Ministry of Defence issued ID card, please note that cards endorsed “Dependent” will not be accepted.

Veterans should present one of the following forms of ID:

  • Veterans Railcard
  • British Veterans Recognition Card/Veterans Regimental Association Card
  • Veterans Oyster Card
  • Ministry of Defence issued Veterans ID card

Peter Williams, Commercial Director for South Western Railway, said:

By making it easier for people to attend these events, we can help to honour the sacrifice that so many have made over the years. Many of our SWR colleagues come from a service background and so this is particularly important to us”.
